Formation · practice planning
Build a practice your coaching staff can work from.
A practice plan should carry your preparation onto the field. Formation connects reusable practice templates, drills, and a session guide so your staff has a shared reference for the work ahead.

Build a reusable practice timeline.
Start with a named practice template. Arrange timed blocks and periods to give the session a clear sequence, then review the timeline and total duration. A template gives you a starting point you can return to instead of assembling every practice from scratch.
For a football staff, that might mean organizing individual work, group instruction, and team periods into one session. The coach chooses the activities and timing for the team's age group, objectives, and program guidance. Formation provides the structure for that plan.
Bring drills in from your coaching system.
Select drills from the team's library while building the template. The editor keeps that selection connected to the coaching system, so the activities in the plan sit alongside the material your staff uses to teach.
The drill library and practice timeline serve different parts of the same preparation: the library holds the activities you can draw from, while the timeline organizes what you intend to use in this session.
Apply the template to a scheduled practice.
Use a saved template as the basis for the selected practice, then edit the session's plan. The practice view shows the date, duration, and timeline, keeping the plan connected to a particular event rather than leaving it as a separate document.
That connection matters when staff are preparing for the same session. There is a concrete practice to review, with its own sequence of work, rather than a generic plan everyone has to interpret separately.
Use the practice guide on the field.
Formation includes a practice-guide interface for a published session plan. Coaches can move through the timeline and open a block to see its details. The guide also includes controls to record whether a block was delivered and add context where appropriate.
Planning an activity and delivering it are different things. Keeping that distinction visible gives coaches a more useful record to revisit when preparing the next session. Access to the guide depends on the team's setup and the session's availability.
Keep the next coaching step in view.
The purpose of the plan is the coaching it supports. After practice, revisit what happened, what needs another opportunity, and what you want to teach next. Formation's broader athlete-development approach explains how observations and next goals can carry that context forward.
Formation remains in development. This page introduces the practice-planning workflow already represented in the product; it does not offer a public editor or immediate onboarding. Feature availability will be confirmed as access opens.
